Nothing Prickly About These Pillows.
Cactus Silk aka Sabra Silk comes from the Saharan Aloe Vera plant native to Morocco. Known for its natural durability and strength the plant-based fiber makes for the perfect material to construct lush textiles.
Good Things Take Time.
Native Moroccan women handpick the cactus leaves. With the help of the hot Saharan sun fibers are naturally extracted and peeled from the plant. Next, the raw threads are dyed with the help of Mother Nature.
To dye the fibers women use untreated botanical pigments, including Morocco’s world renowned spices. It is not uncommon to find shades of blue derived from indigo, yellow from the spice saffron, and red from the poppy flower.
From there the cruelty-free “silk” is combined with camel wool to create an ultra strong and luxurious thread. Natives devote their days weaving the threads on classic wooden looms. Traditionally, the looms are used to create rugs. SHOP | SLO likes to take it one step further and work directly with artisans to repurpose the rugs into pillow and floor cushions.

More than Meets the Eye.
Each piece tells a different story. Hand embroidered symbols from the Berber Tribe are incorporated into designs. Unique symbols represent different life events, such as birth, marriage, fertility, and death.
